  The Arise BIPOC Midwife Future of Midwifery Celebration The Arise BIPOC Midwife Student Pinning Ceremony Founded by Rising Black Midwife Keyawna Scruggs Matthews, Arise BIPOC Midwife is a Pinning Ceremony for BIPOC Student Midwives that spans across all genres of midwifery and across all academic and training programs. Arise BIPOC Midwife seeks to diversify midwifery by improving student retention due to a lack of connection during the learning experience. The ceremony is an affair where future BIPOC midwives commit to their personal journeys while being guided by the altruistic blessings of current BIPOC Midwives.   Arise BIPOC Midwife is so excited to be a recipient of The Midwife Foundation’s 2026 Thacher Community Grants for our new pilot project The Arise BIPOC Midwife Student Community Outreach The Thacher Community Grant supports small yet high-impact community-based projects that promote excellence in health care for women, infants, and families worldwide, especially those that show innovative means to meet their communities’ needs. Funded by the Frances T. Thacher Midwifery Leadership Endowment, this community grant will help us address racial inequity, health disparities, and care of populations in low-resource settings. Arise Black Midwife seeks to secure the legacy of black midwifery by improving student retention due to lack of connection during the learning experience. The ceremony is an affair where aspiring black midwives commit to their personal journeys while being guided by the altruistic blessings of current Black Midwives.
