The Midwifery Policy Collective Maryland Community Midwifery Collaborative!

Maryland Community Midwifery Collaborative is excited to share that it is one of 10 state teams that were selected by the Midwifery Policy Collective to champion access to midwifery care in our community! The selected teams represent Alabama, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, and Ohio. We are thrilled to continue our work in expanding access to community midwifery care right here in Maryland through policy change.

Our team assembled a multi-disciplinary coalition that centers birthing people and families while bringing together expertise in midwifery, policy, and advocacy. The Maryland Community Midwifery Collaborative has representation from Maryland Families for Safe Births, Homebirth Academy, the Maryland Affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives and the Hello Baby Events initiative, Arise BIPOC Midwife. Over the course of 15 months, we will participate in programming designed by the Midwifery Policy Collective and receive funding to advance our local midwifery policy priorities.

The Midwifery Policy Collective is a partnership among the American Association of Birth Centers, Birth Center Equity, Birth Place Lab, Elephant Circle, Institute for Medicaid Innovation, National Association for the Advancement of Black Birth, and National Association of Certified Professional Midwives.
